Best Treatments for Busy Schedules: Minimal Downtime Options
By Dr. Bahnmiller, Columbia Shores Regenerative Health
Let's be honest: most of our patients are not sitting around with a free week to recover from a treatment. They are managing careers, families, appointments, and everything else life throws at them—and they still want to look like the best version of themselves. The good news? You don't have to choose between results and your schedule.
At Columbia Shores Regenerative Health, a significant portion of what we do falls squarely into the "get it done and get on with your day" category. Below is an honest look at our most popular minimal-downtime treatments, what to expect from each, and how to decide which ones belong in your rotation.
What "Minimal Downtime" Actually Means
Before we dive in, a quick reality check: minimal downtime does not mean zero downtime. Most treatments will leave you with some temporary redness, tenderness, or mild swelling. The difference is that these side effects resolve in hours to a day or two—not weeks. You may not be camera-ready the same afternoon, but you'll be back to your normal routine quickly.
That distinction matters, and we'd rather tell you the truth upfront than have you surprised after your appointment.
The Minimal-Downtime Lineup
Wrinkle Relaxers (Jeuveau®, Dysport®, Daxxify®)
If there's a true "lunch-break treatment," wrinkle relaxers are it. The appointment itself takes around 15–20 minutes. You'll walk out looking exactly like yourself, and over the next 7–14 days, you'll notice the gradual softening of lines in areas like the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes.
Downtime is minimal. You may have a small amount of redness or tenderness at injection sites for a short time afterward—nothing that requires taking the day off. The main post-care guideline is to avoid lying flat or doing intense exercise for the first few hours.
For patients who are new to wrinkle relaxers, this is almost always the first conversation we have—because the results are predictable, reversible over time, and consistently satisfying when matched to the right patient.
Dermal Fillers
Fillers occupy a slightly longer time slot—typically 30–60 minutes depending on the area and goals—but the results are immediate. Volume restored. Contours lifted. You can see a difference when you leave.
Swelling and bruising can happen, especially in areas like the lips or under-eyes. For that reason, we recommend scheduling fillers at least a week before any major event, just to give your skin time to settle. For most patients on a typical workday schedule, minor swelling resolves within 24–48 hours and bruising (when it occurs) can be managed with makeup.
The key to keeping downtime minimal? Preparation. Avoiding blood-thinning supplements, alcohol, and intense exercise in the days before your appointment makes a measurable difference in how quickly you bounce back.
BBL (BroadBand Light)
Our Sciton BBL is one of the most popular treatments at Columbia Shores—and for good reason. It addresses sun damage, redness, pigmentation, and uneven tone using pulses of light that trigger your skin's natural repair processes. Most patients describe the sensation as a quick snap of warmth.
Immediately after, your skin will appear flushed, similar to a mild sunburn. That typically resolves within a few hours to a day. Brown spots may temporarily darken before they flake away over the following 1–2 weeks—which is the treatment working exactly as intended. You can wear makeup the next day, and most patients return to normal activities the same evening.
For best results, a series of BBL treatments is often recommended, spaced several weeks apart. The cumulative effect on skin tone and texture is genuinely impressive.
Moxi Laser
Think of Moxi as the gentle entry point into laser skin resurfacing. It's a non-ablative fractional laser that improves skin tone, texture, and early signs of sun damage without the more significant recovery associated with treatments like Halo.
Patients typically experience redness and a sandpaper-like texture on the skin for a few days post-treatment—and then things smooth out beautifully. It's an excellent option for patients who want laser-level results but aren't ready (or available) for a longer recovery window. It's also a great maintenance treatment for patients who have already done more intensive laser work and want to keep their skin performing well.
Microneedling (SkinPen®)
Microneedling works by creating controlled micro-channels in the skin to trigger your body's collagen and elastin production. The SkinPen is the only FDA-cleared microneedling device, and it's what we use at Columbia Shores.
Post-treatment, your skin will look pink—sometimes described as a moderate sunburn—for 24–48 hours. After that, most patients are comfortable returning to normal activity. A series of three to six treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart, delivers the most meaningful improvement in skin texture, fine lines, pore size, and overall quality.
Medical-Grade Skincare
Not every solution requires an appointment. For patients who want to maintain results between treatments—or who are earlier in their aesthetic journey—a personalized medical-grade skincare regimen does more than drugstore options can. We carry products including PCA Skin through our online shop, and our team can guide you to the right routine for your specific concerns.
This isn't a substitute for in-office treatments, but it's a critical partner to them. Consistent, science-backed skincare is what protects your investment between visits.
Building a Schedule That Works for You
The most common approach we see in practice is layering these treatments intentionally throughout the year. A patient might do wrinkle relaxers every 3–4 months, a series of BBL or Moxi treatments in fall and winter when sun exposure is lower, and microneedling in between. Medical-grade skincare runs in the background every day.
None of these require significant recovery time, but together they produce results that compound meaningfully over months and years.
At Columbia Shores, we don't hand you a menu and send you on your way. Every treatment plan is personalized—because your skin, your schedule, and your goals are specific to you. A consultation is always our starting point.
